Reason why I'm aggravated:
  1. Parking lots are a school service, like police, grounds keeping, and facilities. The costs associated with building and maintaining the lots should come out of the university's budget, not mine. Add the price into the "fees" that make up more than half of the price of attending. Don't take it directly out of my pocket.
  2. The parking permit was pitched as being just $12/month. Fine, let me pay month-to-month. The current system charges students for twelve months per year, regardless of how many months they are actually on campus. I personally am only on campus September, October, November, December, February, March, April, and maybe part of May. That's only eight months, so I should be paying $12 x 8 = $96 per year right? Nope, I'm apparently supposed to pay for the other four months I am not here at all.
  3. Parking isn't guaranteed, so I shouldn't have to pay. If parking spots were guaranteed (not an assigned spot, but enough spots), I wouldn't mind so much. It just sucks coming back around noon time and not being able to find a spot on South Campus, even in the Riverview lot.

On the other hand, some colleges charge more for parking, so we should consider ourselves lucky... I guess? That's really all I can come up with in support of the new fees.

Seems a bit shitty for commuters, we pay for a 144$ permit that may or may not actually get us a spot (and by that I mean unless you show up at 8am you don't get a spot within a mile of north campus).
