| May 06, 2008 - May 06, 2008 UMass Lowell will celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by inviting Christina Chan, a Boston-based Chinese-American actor, to perform her one-woman show, entitled "Unbinding Our Lives," about three real Chinese American women in the 1800s. These early Chinese American women triumphed over child servitude, prostitution and arranged marriage to shatter the subservient, exotic China Doll image. "Unbinding Our Lives" exposes the past and the present by exploring the effects of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 on Chinese women and the current issue of human trafficking. A Q&A session and reception will follow the performance. Free admission! Free food and drinks! 4 p.m. - O'Leary 222 Contact Information: Ivy_Ho@uml.edu More... |
