Default 05/10 - Assistive Technology Design Fair

May 10, 2008 - May 10, 2008
UMass Lowell's Assistive Technology Design Fair (ATDF) is a unique event that provides high school students with the opportunity to tackle real-world engineering design problems aimed at helping people with disabilities or special needs. This year we have 44 design teams and nearly 180 students from 13 high schools across Massachusetts entering design projects in our fair. Projects include an adaptive keyboard remote from a team at The Engineering School in Hyde Park designed for a paralyzed shooting victim. Another team from Manchester Central High School is developing a visual enhancement system for a man with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative illness that attacks the retina. Other projects include a magnification device, an automotive creeper, and a lunch-try assist device!
